Prunus avium is our beautiful native Wild Cherry tree. White cherry blossom covers the tree in April-May; it's a beautiful sight and favoured by pollinating insects. Small red cherries follow, which are popular with several species of bird and mammal. Serrated green leaves turn orange and red in autumn. Smooth grey bark turns shades of mahogany red and peels in maturity.
Prunus avium will grow to an estimated height and spread of 10 x 8 metres in 20 year. It is a hardy tree that can cope with wind exposure, although this will affect the blossom display. Prefers a position in full sun in fairly well draining soil.
A very beautiful native tree that is a wonderful habitat for wildlife.
